CAREER PATHS
I have worked in the field of education for eight years. I have experience in teaching art and creativity classes for children and drawing classes for adults. While I was working with children my responsibilities included curating educational plans for groups of children with the purpose of allowing them to creatively experiment with materials and improving their skills in project management and intellectual independence. For my drawing classes with adults that are still going on till present time, my responsibilities include designing educational plans for small groups of adults with the aim of improving their skills in figurative drawing such as expressions, shading, proportions and composition. I have also had management experience when I co-founded and co-managed Eesse Hostel from 2018 to 2020.
I am currently teaching a foundation drawing online course at Baha’i Institute for Higher Education, where I am an alumni of. I also have been having a private drawing class for nine months for a small group of adults in London. On the other hand I am planning to do a workshop at the Festival of Research prior my graduation at Peckham Levels. This workshop will be a chance for the participants to practice a metaphorical approach towards their lived experiences through interacting with my artworks.
I am hopeful that with these experiences I would get to work as a learning curator or an educational manager at an art institute in London. I think that being an active member of a progressive art institute in a city with an art scene like London would be a great experience with a lot to learn from.
Regarding the professional skills I would like to improve for my art practice, there are also different categories that I need to consider. First is the skills that I like to gain in ceramics. I have the experience of being an apprentice at a ceramic studio for a few months in 2018 but I have only started using ceramics as a medium in my art practice recently. Therefore, there are many skills I would like to learn about clay and its capabilities, glazing and firing.
Second, there are teamwork skills that I would like to improve in myself in order to perform better in groups. For the preparation of our graduate show at Copeland and Dilston Galleries I was a part of the exhibition committee. We had weekly meetings to discuss different aspects of the works that needed to be done for example planning for opening and closing events and the times for them, choosing the name of the show, installation, labels etc. I participated in the discussions of the committee and helped with gathering information about the works from students, designing, printing and placing the labels for the show. I am hopeful that I will get to participate in group exhibitions and get to curate a few shows so these experiences can be quite helpful.
Third, the workshop I will be doing as a part of the Research Festival will be a part of my research for continuing with my art practice in the future. By documenting this workshop I will study the ways that people interact with my ceramic objects and look for new ways of looking at these objects and exhibiting them. This workshop will be another way for me to gain new skills and progress my art practice.
